Meet Our Treasurer: Candy Ingalls Berghuis

Hello everyone. My name is Candy Ingalls Berghuis, and I was recently elected Treasurer of the Society of the Ingalls Family, an organization dedicated to preserving the history, heritage, and legacy of the Ingalls family and its enduring connection to Laura Ingalls Wilder. I am honored to serve in this role and look forward to supporting the Society’s mission with care, integrity, and a deep sense of family pride.

I am the proud mother of two adult children and grandmother to two young grandchildren. I value family above all else. My appreciation for family history and tradition has deep roots, shaped both by my upbringing and my experiences later in life. Being part of the Ingalls family legacy is something I hold close to my heart, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a Society that helps keep that legacy alive for future generations.

I grew up on a small farm in Waconia, MN, where I learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and self-reliance at an early age. My childhood was spent caring for our farm animals, baling hay, and tending to a very large garden. These formative years instilled a strong work ethic and a deep respect for the land—values that closely reflect the pioneer spirit embodied by the Ingalls family and immortalized in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s writings.

I recently retired after a 25-year career in the financial investment industry, where I built a reputation for diligence, responsibility, and thoughtful financial stewardship. Throughout my career, I worked closely with individuals and families, helping them plan for the future and make informed financial decisions—skills that translate naturally into my new role with the Society. My background provides a strong foundation for overseeing the Society’s financial matters and ensuring stability and growth.

Retirement has given me more time to focus on the things I love the most, spending time with my family, traveling and I especially cherish the time spent in the great outdoors of northern Minnesota. Whether fishing on a quiet lake, snowmobiling through winter landscapes, or simply relaxing with a good book, I find peace and inspiration in nature. These moments offer time for reflection and connection—to family, to heritage, and to the simple joys that echo the values of earlier generations.

As Treasurer of the Society of the Ingalls Family, I am committed to serving with transparency, care, and respect for both the organization’s mission and its members. I look forward to contributing my experience, dedication, and love of family history to the Society for years to come.
