Meet Our Secretary: Laura Ingalls Gunn

Hello, my name is Laura Ingalls Gunn. It was definitely an experience growing up as Laura Ingalls in the 70s and 80s. Kids loved to routinely tease me with questions like “Is your name half-pint?” and “Do you live in a log cabin?” As an adult, it is much more fun. People truly love the Ingalls family.
So where did I get my name? My father, Paul Ingalls, inherited a family heirloom. It was a soldier’s Bible that had once belonged to my great-great-grandfather, Lansford James Ingalls. The inscription in the Bible was signed by his mother, Laura Colby Ingalls. She was the original Laura Ingalls. It was she who Laura Ingalls Wilder referred to as Grandma in Little House in the Big Woods, chapter 8, Dance at Grandpa’s.
Professionally, I am an interior designer. I have written a lifestyle website, Decor To Adore, since 2008. My work has been featured in magazines and websites such as Romantic Homes, Woman’s World, Country Sampler’s Christmas Decorating, Martha Stewart, and HGTV.
There is one design project that is my all-time favorite. It was recreating the historical interiors for the Little House on the Prairie cabin located in Independence, Kansas.
I also host a YouTube channel that shares an ongoing series, Lessons With Laura. It is very popular with the homeschool and literary set.
A huge history nerd, I often give presentations at various historical sites and events. This was the path that led me to meet several of the cast and crew members of the Little House on the Prairie television show. As my hobby is historical sewing, I was contacted to see if I could recreate the costumes of some of the most beloved characters from the series. The collection of 20+ garments that I made was showcased at several of the 50th anniversary celebrations.
When not scouring estate sales, I enjoy traveling with my husband Eric. We have two children, Alyssabeth Ingalls Sherman aka “Lou” and Ian Charles Ingalls Gunn. Both are actively involved in Ingalls family legacy projects. We also have two dachshunds: a rescued miniature dapple pie doxie named Grace Ingalls (she came to us with that name) and Ponyboy, a huge shaded cream longhaired dachshund. Stay gold.
Some upcoming projects I have in the works are a Little House sewing pattern line, a book What Laura Wore ~ Historical Fashions based on the Little House books, and recreating Martha Washington’s inaugural gown to present at the 2026 National First Lady’s Day luncheon in Springfield, Missouri.
