Meet Our President: R. Lee Ingalls

Hello everyone,

My name is R. Lee Ingalls, the second child and eldest son of Gene and Fern Ingalls, and I am honored to introduce myself as President of the Society of the Ingalls Family.

I am a direct descendant of Lansford James Ingalls and Sarah Hannah Ingalls. Lansford James was one of Charles Ingalls’s younger brothers, placing my branch firmly within the family whose westward journey was so beautifully chronicled by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Growing up as part of the Ingalls family is something I have always taken great pride in. From an early age, I understood that our family story was not just our own; it was part of a much larger American narrative.

Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books endure because they tell the story of ordinary Americans navigating extraordinary times in our nation’s history. Their power lies in their honesty, resilience, and humanity. I have long believed that this is where their true strength comes from: the faithful telling of real lives, real challenges, and real hope.

With the formation of the Society of the Ingalls Family, our goal is to continue that legacy. We seek to preserve and share the stories and photos of additional generations of the Ingalls family, as well as the stories of the friends who, over time, have truly become family. Every life has a story worth telling, and every generation deserves to be remembered.
